About and editorial policy

FireStrategy.ai builds AI tools for UK fire engineering, and publishes 12 free calculators and 11 guides alongside them. This is how that material is written, checked and dated.

What FireStrategy.ai is

FireStrategy.ai is a UK software company building AI tools for fire engineering. The product drafts, reviews and checks fire strategies and fire strategy drawings against the published UK guidance (Approved Document B, BS 9991, BS 9999, PAS 9980, PD 7974, BR 187 and CIBSE Guide E), with every statement traceable to the clause it came from.

Alongside it we publish 12 free calculators and 11 reference guides. Those are free permanently and without registration. They are not a trial and they do not expire.

Why the free tools exist

Two honest reasons. The first is that a calculator is the easy part of this discipline and there is no good argument for charging for it. The second is that people who find a well-built free tool useful sometimes turn out to have the harder problem the paid product solves.

What that means in practice is that the free tools are built properly rather than deliberately limited. There is no watermark, no export restriction and no upsell interrupting the result.

Editorial policy

Everything published here follows the same rules, and they are worth stating because life-safety content deserves it.

  1. Every page names the documents it relies on, with editions. A statement about fire safety without an edition behind it is not checkable, and anything not checkable should not be relied on.
  2. Every page carries a review date. Standards are revised. A page dated three years ago should be treated with suspicion, including ours.
  3. Calculators show their working. Every intermediate value, and the clause each one comes from. If you cannot follow the derivation, do not use the number.
  4. Where guidance is silent, we say so. We do not invent a clause number to make an answer look complete. Where practice is contested, the page says it is contested.
  5. Statistics are dated and sourced. Figures about the Building Safety Regulator come from published application data, currently to 28 June 2026, and the cut-off is stated wherever they appear.
  6. Corrections are made openly. If something here is wrong, tell us and it will be fixed and the review date updated.

What we do not do. We do not reproduce copyrighted standards. Where a page explains a provision, it explains it in our own words and tells you which document and clause to read. You still need the standard.

How the calculators are validated

Each calculator implements a published method. Before publication, every implementation is checked against the published equations across the range of inputs it accepts, and against an independent implementation of the same method. Tolerances are tight: agreement to machine precision on the closed-form methods.

Validation establishes that the arithmetic is right. It does not establish that the method is the right one for your building. That judgement is yours.

Who writes this

Julio Kosta

Julio Kosta BEng · Fire Engineer

Julio Kosta is a fire engineer who has developed fire strategies for residential, commercial and mixed-use buildings from RIBA Stage 2 to Stage 5, at BB7 and Stantec. His work applies Approved Document B, BS 9991 and BS 9999, and includes CFD smoke modelling to support performance-based design.

Professional record on LinkedIn

Every guide carries that byline and a review date. The point of naming a person rather than a company is that when something here is wrong, it is somebody's job to correct it. Nothing chartered is claimed: where a page relies on judgement rather than a printed clause, it says so.

Who this is for

Practising fire engineers and the teams they work in, in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Everything here assumes you know what a fire strategy is for and are competent to make the judgements. It is not consumer fire safety advice and it is not written for the general public.
